«Con un mar de pasiones y a toda máquina», is how Leydis Soto Castro administers all her duties. In addition to being a mother to two children, she is also a founder, school principal, teacher and business partner to ECOS.
«No sueñes tu vida, vive tu sueño», is what I told myself and so, for a big birthday, I gifted myself a stay at a language school in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
Leydis has years of teaching experience. She started working as a teacher in 1998 and has been teaching Spanish since 2003.
Due to her unending energy, her dependability, her disciplined attitude towards work and her obliging nature, Leydis is the guiding spirit of our language school.
Leydis‘ love for the Spanish language enlightens students from every corner of the world through her creative lessons.
I travelled to Colombia in December 2014 and went to school for three months. It was during this language stay that I got to know and learnt to appreciate Leydis as a teacher and as a person. After my return to Switzerland, Leydis continued to instruct me through Skype. Through these lessons, my Spanish improved constantly, and I decided to travel back to Cartagena for three weeks in February 2016.
Leydis had been toying with the idea of opening her own language school for a while. During a conversation following one of our lessons, she told me about these plans. With her enthusiasm, she completely won me over, and we decided to start a new language school. As Leydis' former Spanish student in Cartagena, I know what makes an excellent school.
In June 2016 we rented a building, and a month later we had it converted to suit the requirements of our school.
In December 2016 we found an even more ideal building at our current location. We moved in during April 2017, and renovations were ongoing until February 2018; in the mean time, lessons went ahead as normally as possible. It was challenging for everyone, pero vale la pena!

Our school building consists of six pleasantly air-conditioned classrooms, a kitchen, a ballroom aswell as a cafeteria.
Students can rent a studio or an apartment, consisting of two rooms, for the duration of their stay.
Our school is located within walking distance of the host families, the accommodations, the historic town center, the cultural life and the ocean.
The school's own cafeteria is open to the local population and so fosters discourse. We're certain our school will make you feel: „como pez en el agua, como abeja en flor y como un niño con zapatos nuevos.“
„Aprender español en ECOS es tocar el cielo con los manos. “
Learning Spanish with ECOS is great for a multitude of reasons. The school is located in the heart of Cartagena de Indias, one of the most beautiful cities of Colombia. The city on the Caribbean coast with approximately a million inhabitants was added to the UNESCO cultural heritage in 1984.
Our instructors are certified in linguistics and literature as well as licenced in modern languages and teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. „Adelante con los faroles, a toda vela!“ Off we go, pressing on full throttle!
What makes us special?
